In India, Share Our Strength raises funds by organizing chefs and restaurateurs to host food and beverage events and inspire a new network of supporters. Funds raised from these events go to organizations like Annapoorna and Akshaya Patra to help reach more kids with the healthy food they need to grow and thrive.
On July 2nd of 2025, the first day of a new academic session for kids in India, Share Our Strength and Akshaya Patra officially launched a new mass-feeding kitchen in Nagpur with the capacity to serve 20,000 meals a day. This milestone comes after nearly two years of collaboration and marks a significant stride to supplement the government’s effort to end childhood hunger in India.
The first delivery truck carrying 1,000 hot and nutritious lunches to government schools was ceremoniously flagged off by the district collector amidst the presence of distinguished guests, major donors and supporters.
Share Our Strength’s committee co-chairs and executive director in India, together with Akshaya Patra’s regional president and their team, led the launch ceremony. Many patrons reiterated their support for ongoing operation of the kitchen annually. An exciting announcement was made on the same day about an upcoming plan to build an additional kitchen in the region with capacity to serve 50,000 meals daily. Land and construction funding have already been secured. The event was covered by major local newspapers, including Times of India.
Share Our Strength raises and deploys funds locally in India to support programs that end childhood hunger across the country. In addition to partnering with Akshaya Patra, world’s largest school meals provider, the organization supports four other partners serving midday meals, breakfast and morning nutrition to public school kids across India. With existing presence in Mumbai, Delhi, Calcutta and Nagpur, Share Our Strength is already planning expansion in other cities such as Jaipur and Hyderabad in early 2026.
